Position Summary:
The Safety Specialist promotes safety programs and safety services for the company. This position initiates and implements safety and prevention programs and coordinates claims management activities. The Safety Specialist coordinates and evaluates programs that encourage employees to focus on healthy living and working safely.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Accountable for implementing and delivering results of corporate and company safety and risk management initiatives at all distributor locations
Implement and deliver company’s safety and risk management initiatives
Analyze and interpret risk data to identify work with opportunities and injury/collision prevention focus
Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and activities
Conduct Safety meetings with key employees and management
Conduct risk assessments of facilities and warehouses as well as risk issues identified in the trade/field
Review recommendations to mitigate identified risks with local Safety leader
Facilitate Safety component of New Hire orientation and training as appropriate
Conduct safety training for employees and management
Conduct training needs assessments and recommend training opportunities
Coordinate with local management in the investigation of workplace injuries and collisions
Collaborate with Incident Management Team (IDM) to aide in managing claims to closure
Coordinate with local management and human resources on modified duty assignments and the interactive process at the direction of the IDM team
Coordinate and participate in all Workers’ Compensation and Auto Liability claim reviews
Participate in weekly management team meetings
Other projects or duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management or related field and 3 plus years of safety management and claims management (Workers’ Compensation and/or Auto Liability) experience or HS Diploma/GED and 6 plus years of safety management and claims management (Workers’ Compensation and/or Auto Liability) experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees within an organization
Self-starter with ability to follow-up and follow through
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Available to flex work time to support the company including after hours and on-call
This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Certification in Safety i.e., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS)
Strong technical knowledge and background in OSHA/DOT regulatory standards, safety engineering, risk management and environmental protection.
Experience within large warehouse, product distribution or trucking operation
