Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC/Refrigeration (HVAC+R) Energy Manager who will be responsible for HVAC+R project management and energy management. This role will oversee projects from concept to completion, ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, optimize energy efficiency, and provide technical expertise in HVAC+R projects and controls. This role will support the Director, Sustainability and Facility Asset Programs to ensure project goals for safety, quality, schedule, sustainability, and budget are achieved.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Project Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee capital HVAC/refrigeration projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including architects, contractors, and internal teams, to define project requirements and objectives

  • Develop project plans, schedules, and resource allocation to effectively manage project deliverables

  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies

  • Conduct regular project meetings as needed, provide updates to stakeholders, and address any project-related issues

  • Maintain and manage preventative maintenance contracts and respond to emergent maintenance issues as needed

  • Energy Management:

  • Assess and analyze energy consumption in HVAC/refrigeration systems, identifying opportunities for energy optimization and cost reduction

  • Develop energy management strategies and initiatives to improve system performance and reduce environmental impact

  • Conduct energy audits and recommend energy-efficient solutions, such as equipment upgrades, retrofits, and control strategies

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to implement energy-saving measures and monitor their effectiveness

  • HVAC/Refrigeration Controls:

  • Design, implement, and optimize HVAC/refrigeration control systems to maximize system efficiency, occupant comfort, and equipment lifespan

  • Perform control system assessments, troubleshoot issues, and propose enhancements to improve system performance

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to implement energy-saving measures and monitor their effectiveness

  • Evaluate controls systems efficacy, research new technologies, and determine/update best practice specifications for controls systems

  • Other projects or duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (HVAC, Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred) and 5+ years of prior project management experience in HVAC/refrigeration-related projects OR High School Diploma and 8+ years of the above stated experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, including design principles, equipment selection, and installation practices

  • Exceptional project management skills

  • Deep understanding of energy management principles

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required (up to 25%)

  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with energy management concepts, including energy audits, energy-efficient technologies, and sustainability practices

  • Proficiency in HVAC/refrigeration control systems, such as Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC)

  • Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards, such as ASHRAE, ANSI, and local building codes

  • Project or energy management certifications (e.g., PMP, CEM) are desirable
