The Director of Labor & Employee Relations is accountable for supporting Human Resources and Operations Leaders in the areas of Labor and Employee Relations. This role will provide broad expertise in strategic, collaborative, and consultative services in these areas.
People or Process Management Responsibility:
Implementing policy and procedure.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Providing advice, counsel, guidance and support to all levels of the business units on a variety of labor and employee relations issues, including compliance with all local, state and federal labor and employment laws.
Assisting in the development and implementation of business units’ labor relations strategy.
Supporting the Company’s preemptive labor relations efforts, including managing a union organizing campaign.
Negotiating (First Chair) labor contracts and handling grievance arbitrations, while maintaining effective working relationships with union stakeholders.
Providing business units with day-to-day counsel and advice regarding labor agreements and employment policies/decisions (e.g., hiring, promotion, termination, disciplinary actions).
Promoting proactive management practices to reduce grievances, unfair labor practice charges, charges of discrimination and employment-related litigation.
Overseeing HR compliance in such areas as I-9’s, record-keeping, HIPPA and Affirmative Action.
Providing the business units with labor and employee relations training.
Conducting periodic employee relations and HR audits.
Drafting employment policies.
Providing labor and employee relations support in company acquisitions.
Other projects or duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Management skills obtained in working in Compliance, Human Resources, Legal or Finance
MBA or additional experience
Required Skills and Experience:
7 to 10 years of HR or labor relations experience
The ability to think logically and understand legal concepts
Strong, concise writing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Experience in manufacturing or transportation industry
At least five years’ experience managing multiple business or locations
Proficient at analyzing data and fact patterns, and creative in designing solutions
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Power Point, Word, Excel)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with very strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels
